The Best Time to Visit Mozambique
Mozambique’s mild subtropical climate is definitely worth visiting any time of year. The absolute best time to visit Mozambique, however, is during the dry season.
Mozambique, like most tropical to subtropical climates, has two seasons: the dry season and the wet season.
Mozambique’s dry season lasts from May to November. During this time you can expect temperatures to range from 70 degrees Fahrenheit to 90 degrees. There is also little rain at this time.
The rainy season in Mozambique takes places from November – April. January and February are said to be the months with the most amount of rain and less visibility for underwater activities like snorkeling or diving.
I went to Vilanculos, a small beach town in Mozambique, in October and the weather was perfect! It was never too hot or too chilly. It was always just right. A few times, I fell asleep outside because the breeze and ocean sounds were incredibly calming.
There were some evenings where the weather felt a bit chilly, but it was still that kind of comfy chilly that a hoodie and a cup of hot chocolate with Amarula could easily fix.
For US travelers, I’d would say that the best time to visit Mozambique within the dry season is during the fall months. Shoulder season (September – November) not only offers great deals on flights and lodging, but you can expect to see a lot less crowds!
Shoulder season is actually my preferred season to travel anyway, but I’ll save that for another blog post.
